Pre–Kindergarten Class

As we start our new school year I’d like to share with you some of the things you and your child have to look forward to in our class.  The Pre–K class utilizes structured and non-structured activities to help your child to learn and grow, through individual and/or group activities in: art, music, pre–reading, pre–math, free play (free choice with both indoor and outdoor materials), conceptual instruction, book and story times, sharing and circle times. The main objective of this class is to provide your child with the skills and concepts necessary to make the transition into Kindergarten an easy one.  This is why we call this class our Pre – Kindergarten class.  Our goal through these activities is that your child will grow in positive self-image and gain or improve their socialization skills. Positive measures are used to reinforce the need to respect oneself and others. Experiencing the larger world around them will prepare your child for their school years ahead.  Daily activities are designed to help your child grow in Christian love and understanding, to encourage the development of your child’s self – confidence and establish their basic attitudes towards others. Here are some things to keep in mind to help your child’s Pre–K experience be fun and productive this year:

ART WORK

1.        Art to go home will be found beneath your child’s apple outside the classroom above the coat hooks.

2.       A child never creates a poor project! I believe process is more important than product.

3.       Please dress your child to paint and play everyday. We try to be careful but messy art projects are fun!

SHARING TIME

1.        Only one item please!

2.       PLEASE no violent toys.

3.       If a field trip falls on your child’s sharing day, please wait until the appropriate day of the following week.

4.       Please send the item in a sack or their backpack so the smaller pieces are not lost.

FIELD TRIPS

1.        Usually they will relate to the current topic.

2.       Of course, any suggestions from the parents are very welcome!

3.       Parents will be needed to drive and share in the fun!

 BIRTHDAYS

1.        Parents may provide a special birthday snack treat.

2.       Half birthdays (for those students that have summertime birthdays) may be celebrated during the school year.

3.       Please talk with me and we will schedule the best time.

ILLNESS

1.        Please DO NOT send your child to school if they are unable to fully participate in all the activities, this includes outdoor play.

2.       In no way does rule 1 apply to children with special abilities, rule one only addresses temporary illness.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF

1.        Please do not let your child come in alone or leave them unattended.

2.       Park your car in the designated areas and carefully escort your child to the classroom. This great way to teach watching for cars.

3.       MOST IMPORTANT – if some one other than yourself is to pick up your child at school or a field trip you must let me know in writing!

LABELS

1.        All items brought to school; clothing, lunch boxes, and things for sharing need to be labeled.

Most importantly I love the children and their enthusiasm for life.  I have always found my time with the students and their families here at ACP to be stimulating and very rewarding! If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me in the classroom after school or at (425–746-5497) home.  I am really looking forward to getting to know your child and your family during the 2007 – 2008 school year.

WELCOME !
