Lynn Nichols

Welcome to the Monday/Wednesday 3/4 Preschool Class!  My name is Lynn Nichols, and I will be your child’s teacher this year.  My goal will be to help your child take those first steps toward being a life long learner.  We will explore literature, arts, science and early math concepts through hands on activities and play. Our day will begin with free play, in which children learn small motor, large motor and social skills.  Next we will have circle time, exploring the day’s theme through literature and a little bit of “teaching”.  Free play, combined with a creative activity related to our theme, will round out the first part of our day. Next we will be off to snack, a healthy energy booster for all of us!  Then it’s time for outdoor play, where children will once again work on large motor and social skills.  When the weather is against us, we will do some type of indoor play or dancing to exercise our muscles. Finally, we will gather as a group for a small group activity, music activity, story or sharing.  This will be the time when we talk about the day and get ready to rejoin our families. Some things that you can do to make this the most positive experience for your child:

  1. Be positive, yourself, and share with your child that she will do just fine in school.  Be on time bringing your child to school and picking her up each day.  Reassure your child that you love her and look forward to hearing all about her adventures at the end of each school day.
  2. Dress your child for the weather including a jacket, sturdy shoes, and/or sunscreen.  We will go outside unless it is pouring, and your child will have more fun if dressed for the weather.
  3. Children get messy at school, so please send him in clothes you expect to get wet, messy or dirty.  Pack extra clothes, shoes, socks, and underwear in a plastic bag in your child’s school bag.  He will be most comfortable changing into familiar, well fitting clothes if an accident happens.
  4. Encourage your child’s independence in the bathroom.  We will help, but your child will be most proud of her accomplishments if done on her own.
  5. If your child is sick, he will have a stressful day at school and expose other children and teachers to his illness.  If your child has a fever, vomited or had diarrhea within the last  24 hours, or just doesn’t feel well enough to participate, please keep him at home.
  6. You know your child best.  Whatever you can share with me about your child will help me understand him or her better.  This is particularly true if there is something stressful going on in your life.  Please feel free to call me at home with any questions or concerns, or with anything you’d like to share.  My home number is 206-525-0652, before 9 pm please!

Finally, relax and enjoy this magical time with your preschooler.  We will have loads of fun together, learning and growing all the way. Welcome!
