My name is Cassie Deszo and I am excited about spending the school year learning and growing with your child. We will spend our time together learning how to be good friends and exploring our world of color, shapes, sizes and textures. We will use various stories, songs, paint, play-doh and coloring mediums as well as sand, cork and water as some of the tools in our learning. Our biggest emphasis will be on having fun as we learn.
For many of the children, this will be their first school experience and they will each react differently to the separation from mom and dad. We will be prepared to help your child feel welcome and comfortable in our classroom and would love any guidance you can give us in what helps ease your child’s anxieties. Please feel free to stay until you are comfortable leaving but also be aware that for many children, the easiest separation is a quick one, after giving a hug and a kiss and being told that you will pick up at the end of our school day. This allows them to settle in to our daily routine more quickly and, sometimes, long good-byes can create more anxiety. Feel free to let me know what feels best for you; as with the children, every mom/dad reacts differently to leaving their child at school the first few times!
Please dress your child both for weather and messy play. Their fun is hampered if they are worried about getting their clothes dirty. We play outside at least for a short time everyday unless it is pouring rain. Your child will need to bring a bag or backpack to school each day with an extra set of clothing and any necessary diaper supplies. It is very important that everything you bring to school is labeled with your child’s name: bag, coat, lunch box, etc…. Because they can be difficult to keep track of, I would discourage toys from home, although we can always discuss exceptions. We certainly understand that some children need to keep their “lovies” close at hand. Please read the school illness policy and refer back to it during the school year. If your child does not feel well, it is difficult for them to enjoy their preschool day. I will do my best to send home a newsletter each month letting you know what is going on in our classroom. Please stop and talk to me before or after school or call me at home (425-643-6843) if you have any questions about your child’s preschool experience. I am really looking forward to getting to know you and your child and hope each of you will spend some time in our classroom throughout the coming year.
Sincerely,
Cassie Deszo
